8.30 am: A settling of the week ahead. Tutorials to arrange; admin to accommodate; reviews to sign off; meetings to attend; visiting staff to secure, and screaming research deadlines to meet. 9.00 am: Inbox defoliation and postgraduate admissions to process. 10.30 am: Finally, I’d clawed my way to the top of the pile and breathed the heady air of research for a while. Style book to hand, I proceeded through my, now, bettered chapter. 1.00 pm: A celebration lunch at a local tapas restaurant.
2.15 pm: I thundered, plundered, floundered on for the next three hours, conducting reference research in the foreground and admin in the background. Today, I’ve worked in relative silence. Music felt intrusive. My spirit was unsettled. 5.20 pm: Sunset:
