Wednesday, September 11, 2019: My first CAT scan, at Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth. (I received an appointment in less than a week of seeing my GP. Impressed!) And what a solid piece of kit. The experience felt like an Alton Towers’ ride for the stationary brain:
Throughout yesterday and today I focussed on the text transcriptions of The Biblical Record CD. I feel behind in all things, presently – running to keep up – , and that I’m battling against prevailing winds coming from all directions. These things will pass, I know. I’m conscious of a change that’s taking place – in and around me. The old certainties are being tested; an altered sense of self is emerging; and a desire to reframe my field of action (in all areas of my professional life) is emerging. Plans are afoot, and new opportunities and ideas are being tested. I don’t fear change; it’s the possibility that things may stay the same, which gives me the shivers.
Thursday, September 12: In tandem, I pressed on with the transcription while initiating a tiresome admin project. A determination: ‘I’ll not spend my best energies on those things that are either secondary, ancillary, or likely to amount to little’. After lunch, I visited my surgery for surgery, ably performed by a doctor and nurse. I awaited the anaesthetic to wear off and a dull pain to commence:
Into the evening, and on with the transcription and the difficult stuff. It was all good training for the ear:
