WFH: DAY 47/LENT 16. 6.15 am: Ablutions and breakfast. 7.15 am: ‘Go to Parc Natur Penglais, John!’ I heeded the inner voice. (Communion in motion.) The air was icy; and that felt as it should be, on this occasion. There were few vehicles passing along Penglais Road, below. In the far distance, the 7.30 pm train to Birmingham International drawled out of the station. Thereafter, I heard only the latter end of the dawn chorus and the reverberant pneumatic tapping of many woodpeckers, around and about. I, walking alone, could’ve been someone else, somewhere else, at another time, in better days.

8.00 am: Tea, catch-up, and a review of the day’s duties. I returned to the CD website for a while, before essaying the final mix and mastering of the tracks. The visual furnishings, which provide the banners for each of the sites pages, were going to be photographed during a trip to South Wales. (The various lockdowns have precluded that possibility.) Needs must. I’d enough images from my own photo-stock — both general shots of the landscape and of the particular areas mentioned in the texts — to suffice for now.

11.00 am: I moved on to the compositions. To begin, I increased the master volume, so that all the tracks peaked at -3dB. This provides a common baseline for volume equalisation and differentiation. The process involves science, technology, and intuition. 12.30 pm: All the tracks had been regularised. After lunch, I’d begin making mixdowns of them all, in readiness for final mastering. Back to the CD website.

1.45 pm: There were several furnishings that, on reflection, could’ve been better conceived. 3.15 pm: I returned to making masters:

5.00 pm: The day’s missions had been accomplished.
