6.00 am: Awake, after a fitful night’s sleep. (A bowl of cereal late evening is not advisable, for me.) 7.00 am: I accompanied Mrs H to the railway station. She was off to the referendum protest march in London. I enjoy the town at this time of the morning and year. In the absence of cars and crowds, it’s quiet enough to hear bird’s song. Lights were on in the bedrooms of a few houses: shop and hospital workers readying early for the day ahead, perhaps. The Farmers’ Market was being erected on North Parade as I returned home.

7.30 am: I lay on the bed for some time, trying to drop-off, but to no avail. To work. The CD master for The Biblical Record was given a further audition: sampling volumes and ensuring that the track order on the disc matched that on the cover. (It’s easy to overlook the latter.) Again, I played it on my Denon D-100 system over the Rogers speakers. I’d purchased the Denon in 1994, with some of the proceeds of my parents’ estate. It’s what they would’ve expected me to buy, I suspect. The system, back then, cost a bomb. But it has lasted me twenty five years, and still sounds as good as it did, and quite a lot better than most music systems on the market today. I’m a sucker for aluminium styling and gold trim. ‘So chic!’:

For the remainder of the morning I plugged away at the composition descriptors. 12.30 pm: While the rain abated, I went into town to conduct business.

1.30 pm: Onwards, with various Twitter feeds about this momentous day (one way or another) descending from the top of my screen. History in the making, as they say. ‘What do you pray for John?’ ‘A righteous outcome, and a period of peace, reconciliation, and stability to follow’, I reply. God is on the side of truth, charity, hope, humility, and the poor. He has voted that way consistently.

4.00 pm: ‘Save’/’Close’.
