Moreover, the curriculum needs to be retooled in such a way as to permit immediate conversion to on-line only delivery (should be go into lockdown). The ‘Like Children in Bright Clothing’ composition now works exceedingly well. ‘The Singing in the Air’ was revised for pace and a few transitions.

2.00 pm: Mr Garrett, Dr Forster, and I held a conference call to discuss the placement of second and third years painters and postgraduates. We’ll be attempting the near impossible in order to make possible one-to-one, face-to-face teaching. Some other art schools have opted to deliver all their practice-based teaching online. It’s a simple solution, but not the best in my opinion. On line, it’s difficult to have a constructive conversation about the material aspects of the medium, such as size, painterliness, the efficacy of priming, the chemistry of the paint, their methodology for mixing and use of brushes, and all aspects of pigment application. From March to the present, we have instructed students online on the basis of having experienced their work ‘in the flesh’ previously. In other words, we already knew what the product looked and felt like.
